WhatsApp seems to have listened to its users, and is set to bring back a much-requested feature. With the launch of Snapchat-like ephemeral status updates on WhatsApp, the text status updates were discontinued, much to the disappointment of users. But the latest beta update hints at a return of this feature.

In new Whatsapp Android beta app (version 2.17.95) brings back the old status update feature. So basically, you can now type out a status message under "About and Phone number", which will be visible on your profile page. More importantly, this status feature won’t disappear after 24 hours.

Other Changes in the Update

The interface of the chat window has changed a bit.
  • The attachment button used to send images/documents/songs/location has been moved to the chatbox at the bottom.
  • The camera button has also been moved inside the chat box, which now has curved edges.
  • The video and audio call button are prominently shown on the top bar of the chat.
